A Wingless Soul Effigy, Found on an 18th Century Gravestone in the Old Spencer Cemetery, With Either Very Weird Hair, or a Pair of Horns Sticking Out From Its Head

Whatever it is, I’d have believed it was only a random mark except that it appears to be repeated just below the image’s throat. Very odd indeed, especially with the other symbols on the right side of the photo! Thanks for posting it!

  2. You are very welcome, and thank you for your thought provoking comments. I originally had dismissed the swastika-like scratchings as modern day vandalism, but now I’m not so sure. I also interpreted the symbols to the right to be a representation of a tree , flower, or odd vegetation. The carving on this stone is so much cruder than on the surrounding gravestones, and it’s very difficult to interpret the carver’s intent due to his apparent lack of artistic skills.
